Veterans may qualify for interview or
even direct entry, see below. Standard Application process follows these
qualifiers.

The below qualifications will not be
required to obtain a qualifying score on the Aptitude Test or meet the
requirements of 8.3.1 High School Diploma or GED, or 8.3.2 math. If they meet
all other minimum qualifications and the requirements listed below, they will
be invited to an interview. These individuals must still meet all
post-selection requirements. Applicants are not required to apply through these
methods and may choose to apply through the standard method of entry.

Military Experience:

8.5.1.1 - Applicants who have completed
at least three years of active duty military service with the U.S. Armed
forces, with a discharge under honorable conditions within five years of the
application date.

8.5.1.3 - Applicants who have
completed at least six years of U.S. military reserve services, who are still
serving as a military reservist, or have an honorable discharge within two
years of the application date.

8.5.1.3 - Applicants who have been
honorably discharged from the military and have completed military technical
training school in a M.O.S. applicable to the commercial and/or industrial
electrical construction industry and can document a minimum of two years of
military experience in that MOS within five years of the date of application.
These individuals may also qualify for direct entry.

8.5.1.4 - To qualify under 8.6.1.1,
8.5.1.2, and 8.5.1.3, applicants must provide a DD 214 or equivalent documentation
acceptable to the JATC to establish their experience.

8.5.1.5 - Applicants who have served
overseas and/or lived on a military installation for a minimum of two (2) years
prior to applications will have any existing residency restriction waived.

Interested in becoming an electrical apprentice with the Flint/Saginaw Electrical JATC?  The 1st step to becoming an apprentice is to be accepted into the program.  The following tasks need to be completed in order to get started.  Good luck!  And remember, if you have any questions about the process or the program please feel free to contact us.

Complete one of our applications and return to us (within 30 days of receipt).  Along with the application you will need to provide the following.

• Official birth certificate
  
  


• Must be 18 at time of DOL registration
  
  


• Official high school diploma, College diploma, or GED at time of DOL registration
  
  


• Valid Driver’s License or Valid State Identification Card or Voter’s Registration Card
  
  
  
  

*Applicants under 18 or still enrolled in school are still eligible to apply, test, and interview. These applicants will not be issued a training assignment until proof of minimum age and High School, or GED completion has been received.

The Flint/Saginaw Electrical JATC will make copies of your official documents when you bring them to our office and we will return them to you at that time.  There is a $25.00 processing fee for the application. We accept cash, check or money orders.

Oral interview with the committee.  Once the applicant passes the aptitude test they will then be placed on a list to orally interview with the FSJATC.  The interview will be approximately 15 minutes long.  Applicants will once again be notified by mail of the date and time they have been scheduled for an interview.

Once interviews have been completed the applicant will be placed on an eligibility list for the apprenticeship program.  The FSJATC will contact the qualified applicants from the list to inform them of when the next program will start.  Programs start once a year, therefore , depending on how many qualified applicants the FSJATC has received, you may remain on the list for approximately 3 months to 2 years before being notified.

All applicants selected by the FSJATC for admission to the apprenticeship program are required to submit to a urine drug test provided at the committees expense.  Any individual that refuses to take the drug test or tests “positive” will not be allowed to continue in the apprenticeship program
